    Apple cancels Athenry Data Cantre

They obviously have enough jobs around Athenry, cant be creating any new ones. So much for Ireland being an efficient place to do business. Apparently the people protesting don't even live in the area

Apple has announced that it is not going to proceed with its planned data centre in Athenry, Co Galway.

In a statement, the company said despite its best efforts, delays in the planning approval process had forced it to make other plans.

The firm added that while disappointing, the setback would not dampen its enthusiasm for future projects in Ireland as its business grows.

The decision, while not entirely unexpected, will come as a bitter blow to supporters of the project in the Galway town and the wider economy.

This is a very disappointing decision.

It's one that will be regretted for a long time, in Athenry and elsewhere.

So, any sign of that €13 billion that Apple owes us in back taxes?

Far too many old cranks in this country who are opposed to all development
Something should be done to make decisions quickly on these kinds of issues in the interests of the majority

Planning laws in Ireland not fit for purpose.

In cities they can't build houses where they're needed and in the country they can't build to attract much needed jobs.

There's too many rights and not enough responsibilities associated with the process.

    Data centres are rubbish.

The local massage parlour does more for the town and is a better employer.

Data centers are the future and Ireland's west coast has the kind of temperate climate to suit the development and management of them.

There may be limited employment, but there's SOME and what there is will be well paid.
