Ohhhh ... not all is well between iRELAND & APPLE it seems. Now theres one for the books that I wasnt anticipating.

So at the moment Ireland and Apple are going up against the European Commission in the ECJ while Ireland and the European Commission could be going up against Apple ..

    Interesting times!
The excuse for not taking €13 billion, until very recently, was that the government claimed that it did not possess the expertise to take this money and deposit it in to an escrow bank account. Apparently.

This is the same government which remains the largest shareholder in an Irish "pillar bank"

The cynic might suggest that this government may not have sufficient confidence to lodge this money to any Irish bank for safekeeping.

Nice thinking, but the reason the EU is involved is that almost all of the 13 Bn accrued in other EU states.

They'll want most of the 13 Bn, and forever after, which is why it don't make no sense for us to push hard for the crumbs.

Not really. Escrow scenario was sorted but there was absolutely no mad rush to collect the cash. The EU doing more jumping up and down encourages this public massaging of the optics and nobody is getting any of this money for a very long time, if ever.

And the data centre debacle would have encouraged anyone to invest elsewhere. Nothing quite as offputting as country who can't manage its infrastructure.

Yes but its not the money they are after

13 Billion lids is chicken feed in an Economy the size of the EU

Its to encourage Apple and other Multinationals to invest in the Central Powers

    - rather than an Offshore island....
