Homeless figures now so bad (8270) that government try to hid them

The homeless figures continued their surge upwards in August to stand at 8270 with 3048 of these
    homeless children.

This was the homeless figure that Landlord Coveney told us would be at 0 by June of this year.

Little bit embarassing for the department of housing so in their August report on homelessness
    here is their summary.

"Addressing homelessness remains a priority for this Government and all stakeholders continue to make every effort to address the issue.

While the number of family presentations nationally in August has increased by 13 overall, the figure for Dublin has fallen by 32. Given that there were 102 additional presentations in Dublin, the overall reduction in the number of homeless families in Dublin is 134. The opening of further family hubs/facilities in the coming weeks and months will further assist in meeting the needs of families in emergency accommodation.

Last year, there were over 3,000 exits from homelessness into sustainable tenancies. In the first six months of this year some 1,800 exits were achieved.

The Department and local authorities will continue to work closely, quickly and proactively to identify further solutions that will work to help people and families in this very difficult situation.

An unprecedented €5.3 billion has been ring-fenced for our housing and homelessness plans out to 2021. Those plans are currently being reviewed in light of the experiences of the past year and more details of this will be announced shortly for debate and agreement in the Oireachtas."

No sign of the homeless figures at all and even when you go into the report

there is no total figure given for homelessness.

So the new solution seems to be "Hide The Problem"

Would agree, that report is very short so should be able to give basic statistical information in an easy to understand way, and it doesen't!

You have to drill into the stats to decipher that overall amount, rather than present it straight off.

Surely this report , along with geographic information, should have clearly identified figures for total number of people homeless?
I mean it gives the number of families/households and children and adults but nowhere does it total it.

Whats more, it is missing comparative tables, say for the previous 2 months and maybe the figures for Aug 2016 and 2015.

    Homelessness is not a crisis.

    It is a policy option.

One the gaelers have fully embraced.

They have no desire to solve this "crisis". It is their policy.

I don't disagree that's a factor too. But bear in mind that the population of the Greater Dublin area has increased by almost a 1/4 of a million in the last 10 years. It could be argued that homelessness could have been a lot worse, all considered.
