"British jobs for British workers" Gordon Brown

Gordon Brown called for British jobs for British workers.

With unemployment here heading for 5% and more likely to continue rising than falling, does Ireland have a Gordon Brown for our tightening labour market?

Eamon Gilmore not bloody likely. Fat Bertie yes if he's desperate. Inda anything is possible. The Greens, not a chance.

What he is spinning is just that - spin! EU laws prevent the type of thing Brown is proposing sin é. EU citizens are fully entitled to travel to any member state they choose and obtain employment there.

Not really, a British Citizen NOT born in the UK is not allowed free movement within the EEC, thats why all those British Nigerians lose their passports and docs when they sneak into Ireland from the Uk, if they showed their British Passport or Visa they would not be able to claim asylum as they are want to do.

This is pie in the sky nonsense. How many Irish citizens have any interest in working in Lithuania or Poland? How many Irish competently speak languages other than english? Its all very well while Britain and Irelands economies are performing, but as those unemployment figures creep upwards and financial stress for Irish households becomes commonplace.

Well, you don't need to be a visionary, do you?

Laziness on our part surely? The Irish and British have always had some kind of arrogance and/or fear of learning a foreign language unlike the other European nations.

I think you will find that many Irish & British peopla are working in Lithuania and Poland. I know a few myself who have taken that step as the cost of living is far, far below ours and the quality of life can be better. Having visited Vilnius in Lithuania I can say with confidence that their public transport system makes ours look pathetic.

Is this more about Gordon and his obsession with Britishness? Otherwise it sounds like populist nonsense.

Where do we stop this? Newcastle jobs for Gordies?

I quite like being able to live and work throughout Europe and hope it stays that way.

Granted. We might. Men and women "of the world" can and do. The educated, the travelled, the comfortable and confident the movers and shakers can succeed anywhere.

But look around you, the vast majority of your fellow citizens do not have this capacity or this wherewithal. As always ordinary Joe gets shafted as ordinary Joe never votes.
