Buy Dollars now or in May?

Can someone advise me? My niece is going to the US in May and wonders if she should start buying now or leave it until May.

    Ask Ahern
By 2020, 12.75Lts of petrol will cost you just under €30, today it will cost you €16.42 exactly.

Clareman don't be worried about a few pence. Ye're business is always packed so pay that speedy Pakistani chef less and give it to your niece.

If you could accurately predict currency movements you would be selling your services in the City of London, not posting here.

I would say wait til May. You can't predict currency movements. Euros will earn interest in your account between now and then. Dollars in cash stuffed under your mattress won't.

Hedge your bets. Spend half what you were planning on spending on dollars now and the other half in May.

    Best of both worlds!

Buy sterling now and convert it to dollars in May.

(Actually I have no idea if this is a good idea)

Me and the family are also going to NY in May. I can't figure out what to do so I'm leaving it up to the Gods. I'll by some dollars the week before we go and keep the head down. Life is complicated enough already.

Nothing will motivate the lazy / apathetic / Americanised / west-British types to embrace their culture and the Irish language.
