We do import electricity from the UK national grid albeit in small quantities so theoretically we already do import nuclear energy. A substantial interconnector (the present one has a capacity of something in the order of 200MW) would make the economic case nuclear plant to be built in this country a lot stronger.

why build it here why not on Britain
Energy security, easier supply/demand matching, lower cost, etc.

Yes, and we should also export green electricity
eco warrior, it's kind of a misnomer to say we export / import green electricity, nuclear electricity or any other kind. Our national grid has a certain requirement and if there is a surplus it can be exported. You can't say that it came from any particular turbine. The real question is how do we satisfy our energy needs given the various considerations which must be factored in, i.e. cost, environmental, etc. and personally I think there are significant roles for both nuclear and renewables.

Didn't EDF offer to supply fixed price nuclear electricity to the whole of Europe for a certain period of time. It wouldn't be a bad offer if there were competitors. We could get rid of all our polluting plants.

Given the minimum operating size it makes more sense to locate on the mainland, maintainance, skilled labour, transport of fuel, security. prevaling wing etc etc do the pds have any view

The only way a Nuke makes sense is if the taxpayer underwrites the cost of building it, and the cost of decommissioning it - and the anticipated massive price increases in the cost of Uranium are conveniently ignored.

Energy Security? With Uranium? Are you nuts?
easier supply/demand matching? With a Nuke? Are you nuts? (A Nuke provides baseload, not demand matching!)
Lower cost? Now I know you are nuts!![]()
