The latest data suggests that estimates that Ireland is close to what's regarded as full employment are wide of the mark, which in turn suggests there's less risk of the economy overheating even if growth remains strong.

    ESRI take note.

Lets make the construction sector growth greater

We are still hugely exposed to U.S multinationals. If their laws change or if BEPS hits us hard , or even Brexit , then we’ll suffer.

We have a terrible record of building Irish businesses with Ryanair , Smurfitt and Kerry Group being the only ones that spring to mind.

There are loads of good Irish Companies Kingspan and Glanbia have had unbelievable success.

Lets not stress too much. There are always other opportunities.

We have come back from 15% unemployment to close to 6%

Nobody saw that in the depths of the IMFF depression.

True, but we are still exposed especially re the corporation tax take. We also need to think of what lower skilled people will do in the future.

Also, our exports are massively reliant on the UK (accountancy “tricks” put Belgium at the top)

    Agreed.

    But we can adapt.

Low skilled workers probably are getting directed towards hospitality, retail etc...

Why do so few take up trades ? Good reliable tradesman would have work for life.

I think there is still a shortage of companies offering apprenticeships. I have been advocating a use it or lose it approach to the training levy in employers' prsi. If a company runs approved training schemes, they get a refund, if they don't it goes to the state.

    Excellent.

It was some achievement reducing unemployment by 40,000 when there was no recovery.
