Surprise surprise. Danny Mc Coy of IBEC says Ireland should bring in a 0pc Corporation Tax rate to counter East European competition. No mention of how the tax foregone is to be made up though and none of the ol' guff about the quality of the workforce etc etc. www.tribune.ie

Ireland is a shockingly expensieve place to run a business.....more so again this year with another increase in the minimum wage,along with the increases in overheads.

Not really, we're losing our edge and it doesn't appear to concern the gov't., they seem to believe that capital spending will keep their construction buddies busy and this will solve our problems, sometimes I think they believe their own spin.
Sounds like more of the same from the corporatist neoliberals.

If the republic had 0% corp tax then the north will really get hammered, i would suspect there would be a lot of companies moving over the border, infact i dont see why they wouldnt considering businesses will do anything to increase profit.
The large gap in north/south corp tax is already a wall preventing incoming business coming north, the republic almost has a monopoly in Ireland concerning incoming investment if this gap was increased then it would have a much larger negative impact in the north, and due to EU legislation the UK is considered one entity and therefore all areas must share the same corp tax (the one that suits England)
Many european compainies have 0% corp tax, if it was evident that the republic was losing out to investment then it should drop this imo, it just wont help the north out much.

it is only a matter of time before Tax harmonisation is forced upon us here, as we are less than 1% of Europe it did not matter too much to the German/French economies.
Multinationalist love Ireland because of low red tape , no unions ( only in the public sector - the irony of the parasites having a union as opposed to the wealth creators having none ) good English and 10% tax as opposed to Germany's 25% tax and fair English but brilliant location.
The bean counters count and Eastern Europe is building but we have a lot of their best young people , if this changes quickly then we are in trouble but it will take 25 years to see the change.
I mean wake up, a little Island on the edge of Europe cannot hope to compete for the future jobs unless something good is offered, IBEC (************************ers et al ) mean well in the long term but it may be out of our hands.
