Get Revenue to take it over. Now that would be interesting.
Wouldnt that mean that all Landlords would have to declare to Revenue.

Im sure that they would love that.

The RTB can be easily streamlined.
There's absolutely no need to register landlord or tenant details.

Instead of paying €90 for each registration, just pay €25 extra in second-home property tax.
This automatically shifts the money to a tax issue, which would drastically reduce non-compliance.

This money could go to the RTB which can be used for the sole purpose of landlord-tenant resolutions (for whatever good they do here).

Taking away the need to register eliminates massive (and needless) administrative waste.

Why do you think your son has a right to live in Castleknock?

And as a corollary, why do you that the rest of us should subsidise your son's housing preference?

Because the government seek to regulate the rental market and they also tax the rental market so they are a key stakeholder. Effectively the state is by far the biggest collector of rental income. And as the regulatory body they need to ensure the business is viable and sutainable. So ensuring the terms of trrade are secured for both parties is in everyone's interest.
