Reading my Sindo today and I see Eddie Hobbs is advertising property investment opportunities abroad.
I think this is morally wrong. He used state airwaves to get into the heart of every granny across the nation by saying sensible things like "don't by an apartment abroad, what happens when the sink springs a leak?".
Now he's cashing in on the fame that was given to him on a television set paid for by taxpayers to advise people to do exactly he said not to do a year ago.

There is a slight but crucial difference. Investing in an overseas property is basicly puttting all your eggs in one basket. If you get sold a pup or property in the area tanks you are screwed.
Investing in his property scheme is spreading the risk over several areas but still with reasonable prospects for return. I believe his angle is mainly commercial with less emphasis on residential. The former still has good growth prospects in many regions.
Personally I wouldn't look at an property based investment schemes.
The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money.

And reading the business section I just noticed now (in the lead story)

(Aside from the irregular use of dashes and hyphens) it seems that Eddie isn't even using the most reputable* means of extracting money from the public
*I'm not saying he is trying to rob people. Just that this isn't exactly a "blue-chip" property fund

The Money-Hobbit from Cork jumped the shark last year when he advised people to buy property in Cape Verde. He has no credibility anymore, the only impact of his campaign to abolish the Min Prices Order was in the off-licence trade.

I wouldn't touch it with yours, but that's a separate issue.

So what if he used state airwaves....
The political establishment lacks both vision and courage.
The Taoiseach used state everything to advise people to speculate on the price of houses and invest in them on that basis. Hobbs is certainly no worse than that.
