From today's Indo, it appears that applications for Oz are up.

    Cant blame them.
I was labouring in down under aswell. The difference is the earlier starting times - kickoff is 7am, which involved a 4.30am rise every morning for me, but this is compensated by the weather, the weather, and the weather. The wages are good also. If you dont mind being a million miles away from family and friends, its paradise. I cant speak highly enough of Oz.

I have a brother that moved there in 1990 for a year and is still there. I went to Oz for his wedding in 1999 and it was the trip of a lifetime. I would love to live there but when you have a family it is difficult. I have been there twice since and will be going again in May 2008 for his 40th. Last year my brother returned to Ireland with his Australian wife and son for a holiday. I will never forget the day when my sister-in-law needed to go to the supermarket to get some messages. The look of shock and horror on her face when she discovered the price that we pay in Ireland just for the bare essentials. She is still wondering how we manage at all.

I'd never even considered it before, but you know what a move in that direction doesn't see too bad an option at all at the moment.

Welcome to the old days. They haven't gone away, you know.

It's the spin that's put on this - They're leaving for "the weather," "the standard of living" or "crime." They're leaving because the work they're qualified for cannot be got here.

Well they are leaving ireland as work isnt here and the weather is ************************, and the standard of living isnt the best, and crime is ************************e.

They going to Australia because the weather is better, standard of living supposedly better, and seemingly lower crime..
Ireland interests are best secured within a more dynamic EU. Vote YES to Lisbon.
