    not a farmer, but don't most do silage nowadays, getting in contractors to do so.

    Also if footing turf, would have been done much earlier. Again those with suitable bogs use contractors or buy the turf in.

    Saved hay in my time. Never heard the phrase "knock" for hay.

    The falling attendance at Galway races may be that the festival goes on too long - now a full week. At one time Tuam had a meeting on the Friday of Galway Race week, but that was eclipsed by Galway.

    Some events in Galways hinterland which would normally take place last Sunday were cancelled or diminished because of the extension some years ago of racing into the Sunday.

    Those who know racing tell me that the actual racing is second grade. The relentless promotion of bling by RTE begins to bore after a few days.

    The Hurdle was a piss-poor race this year.

    The Galway meeting is full of handicaps therefore there is no real quality even the maiden races are 2nd/3rd rate affairs.

    I doubt it. There was a record attendence at punchestown this year!

    Even in the reserved enclosure there was no room to swing a cat.
