Gov. spending cutbacks for this and next year - SBP

The SBP has the story that at last Wednesday's cabinet meeting spending cuts of hundreds of millions will be made for the remainder of the year and that overall spending will only be allowed to grow next year by just E4billion from E7.2billion this year with current rather than capital spending bearing the cutbacks.

You can count on Fianna Fáil for the prudent fiscal management that is necessary to keep the economy healthy. No spend and burn here.

It might be difficult for us to understand, but I'd rather fiscal prudence than lumbering us all with a massive national debt and dubious economic future because of excessive demands.

    You lying **%&*%!****&^$!&*%

You FFailure FFeckers ramped up public spending by 23% in the first half of this year deliberately. you bought the election in exactly the same way as 2002. Youse lied time and time and time again throughout the campaign on economic projections for the coming years that you knew were pure fantasy. And the people, pathetic herd that they are, fell for it again.

Our wildly unbalanced economy exists purely to keep FF in power. Youse crank it up in the run-in to elections and spread fear and loathing about how everything will collapse if youse aren't in power. Then you slash it back in the years following the election, allow the people 2 years to cool off from their anger, then start cranking it up in time for the next election.

All the while we've become one of the most expensive countries to live in on the planet and ordinary citizens are getting stiffed every moment of every day by sharp practices, gouging and FF-linked cartels in every area of the economy.

Yer a fecking mafia. Nothing more.

    "Economic prudence" me hole.

Well when all our economic eggs were placed in the construction basket what do people expect?

What’s this "We" business? You deluded yourself when voting for the Greens. Then you blame the masses for not displaying your level of perspicacity.

Will be interesting to see where the cuts come. Mary hanafin threw cash around DL during the campaign, every school got their extra teachers, extension, playground etc. Now if they were to chop the HSE, that would be progress

Is it, or is it not true, that:

    a) Public spending accelerated sharply in 2001 and 2002 before the election

    b) During the election, FF insisted everything was wonderful and the good times would keep on rolling

    c) As soon as the election was over, FF announced massive spending cuts for the remainder of 2002 and 2003

    d) Public spending accelerated sharply in 2006 and early 2007

    e) During the election, FF insisted everything was wonderful and the good times would keep on rolling

    d) As soon as the election is over, FF admit the economy is shaky and embark on massive spending cuts for 2007 and 2008
