Ireland is part of the FAO's "North-East Atlantic" area, which is enormous (it includes the Baltic, for example).

And given that's the case, one should perhaps look equally critically at the other claims being made by Karen Devine, because she's talking bollox here.

And all you have to do to prove me wrong is go find me the figures for the Irish EEZ on Eurostat.
You might trawl through those stats for the net figures yourself there.

What is it about fish threads that make people do this? Not complaining, just wondering..

I've already done so. There are no figures matching the ones claimed by Karen Devine. If someone else can show that there are - well, she gave the reference to Eurostat, work away.

People really are expecting a referendum - first the No side come with fish, then they come with the minimum wage...

Its suffice to say, the value of Irish fishing market is substantially curtailed by EU policy.

    Anyone care to say otherwise?

Hey, I didn't start it. Anyway I'm complaining about a suggestion to search for stats in a place where none exist.

Probably true. Trouble is as the radio show pointed out we do not have the trawlers to catch the fish or processors to use the fish anyway. Big investment needed there no matter what you do.

    How do you figure that?
Regarding the Irish fishing fleet, it would cease to function without the free movement of labour. I doubt there is a boat in service without a foreign crewman.
