Only 5% have registered to pay the Household Charge

According to journal.ie only 68,000 have registered to pay the 100euro household charge.

NEW FIGURES SHOW that over 68,000 households in Ireland have now paid the controversial household charge in the first month since it came into effect at the start of the year.
As of 4pm yesterday, figures from the Local Government Management Agency (LGMA) show that 68,045 households have registered to pay the €100 charge – equating to over €6.8million in revenue for the government which hopes to raise €160 million in total.

1.4 million Households are liable for the charge. This means that just below 5% of people have signed up.
There is 2 months left to register.

IIRC over 90% of SSIA accounts were opened in the last month despite having a full year to set them up. We are a last minute race when it comes to this kind of thing. Although some people just like to get things out of the way, I certainly know of a few who have factored the €100 into March's budget.

If enough people refuse to pay, then the huge volume of cases to be handled and investigate will be far too great to handle, rendering the tax unworkable and unenforceable.

Wrong figures you have there, 1.6 million Households required to pay the household tax, roughly 1.7 million Households required to register, obviously some unfinished estate/unfinished apartment blocks are excempt for now, but they are still required to register.

    I have not paid yet.
As I said before- I will join a crowd.
And I will join the crowd which shouts loudest.
Hopefully it will be the one which objects to this unfair sort of property tax.
Time to get you house in order, Phil Hogan.
I would pay- but only when the system is fair.

Big diffrence between the SSIA and this. This takes a fortune out of your pocket that some dont have ....while the SSIA gave you 25% more after 5 yrs when people had spare money......
