This is his style, but we must reject his substance. The quote in the first section is a witting lie-as not only is there inflation, but galloping hyperinflation emitting from the QEIII policies from the ECB and the Federal Reserve. As for his "respect...for the countries making massive efforts that would have been unthinkable a short time ago", those efforts are the bone crunching austerity that has led to huge resistance in the countries he names. The same austerity moves brought the Fianna Fail government down, and will bring down the current one unless it breaks the stranglehold it making such "massive efforts" to appease
The next horrible move by Schauble and other finance ministers and heads of state will surface at the summit meeting in Paris tomorrow, where the moves for Eurobonds will be discussed, with the condition that European governments give up their sovreeignty completely and obey the supre national "union" of Brussels.
There you have the real translation of Schauble's cute remarks.
This is what happens when you spend too much time on Pie. You become so despairing and negative that someone like Schauble seems like he is living on another planet, a happy planet. Pie should come with a health warning.
Pie reality - Crying into your pint - without your pint!
I certainly think inflation is coming and indeed is already here - June 2011 numbers showed UK at 4.5% CPI, US at 3.6%, Eurozone at 2.7%
however to refer to this as galloping hyperinflation is not factually based
