We need to cut social welfare

Why isn't the dole time-limited as in other countries? Even in a recession, 90% of people will find some sort of work within a matter of a couple of months, if not weeks. The dole should not be a lifestyle choice, but a hand up to assist people between jobs.

In either case Justice per se is moot - with increased numbers coming onto the dole, decreased tax revenues - the country doesn't have the money.

There should be a responsibility on the staff of social welfare offices to identify those who are looking for employment from those who have no interest in finding employment and who would happily spend the rest of their lives doing nothing and lifting the €200 a week. Plenty of the latter existed even in the times of high employment. Anyway, distinguish between the two, and refuse to pay the latter.

From far and wide, is it? Must need some kind of transport and public transport doesn't reach all places. Of those cars these people drive, ever thought that the cars were bought when the had employment?

Couple up the road from me here - neither have a job. Get a taxi home with the weekly shopping (we are on a bus route BTW!)

What thrifty people they are. Well done to them, making one trip to shops for shopping per week and only using a taxi for that. Unlike some who would be going to the shop at least once a day in their private car/suv/jeep.

Couple I know - neither have a job - they went on Holidays last year -

Dingle? - Nope!

OK Egypt then? - Yep!

OMG, someone went on holiday to Egypt! Stop the freakin' press. Having seen the price of holidays in this country and that of Egypt, it works out cheaper to go to Egypt, ffs.
