    US firm to shut Athlone plant with loss of 165 jobs

    165 jobs are to be lost at US healthcare company Conor Medsystems in Athlone, Co Westmeath.

    The US company, a unit of healthcare giant Johnson & Johnson, is located in the IDA Industrial Estate, Dublin Road, Athlone.

    The manufacturer of stents recently failed to meet US FDA targets.

    Last Friday, the results of asurveyof 41 US firms here showed that almost half are considering moving functions from Ireland or shutting down entirely.
