Simply won't happen. I'll put it this way:Originally Posted by Auditor #9
Fibre is the most important feature going forward. Fibre backhaul is needed to connect not only all the major urban centres, but all the middling and large towns (ie: 150 towns with pop of more than 1,500 people). That will give you tp class network - and thats already out there in many cases, owned by seperate companies
Developments in wi-fi, wireless, 3g etc will make the land line issue redundant, thats reallty what i'm saying. The 1,500+ towns will act as nodes for vodafone, o2, £, meteor, digiweb etc to get onto the internet - with your mobile being the connecting tool betwene pc/laptop and the internet, not the landline.
FTTH (fibre to the home) isn't being put in by developers or eircom on new homes, which is a big mistake. This only continues to push the end user towards mobile technology. MY previous post should make this clear, the landline is dying, the future with be wireless local networks using fibre to connect urban nodes/centres.
and the Government/Dempsey have been doing HUGE work in this area (MAN's, internation connectivity, fibre north/south. The landline issue will soon cease to be an issue.
