Wages up 5.7% last year in the Private Sector

according to the Sunday Business Post.

    Very interesting...

I hope that this means increased productivity and less rights for workers as demanded by folks on here whenever public sector workers get any sort of increase..

I sincerely that productivity is up too in order to justify the increase in pay. If not, then such rises do not bode well for the economy overall.

I am opposed to them to some degree. Public servants should be easy to fire if they are doing a bad job, and the level of their pensions should be based on performance.

don't think anyone is opposed to them but i do think they are a valuble commitity and should be factored into the total value of a public service package. public service salaries should be adjusted so that this is reflected when compared with the same job in the private sector, where there is no security and pensions are considerably weaker

Civil Servants can be sacked in the exact same way as anyone in the Private Sector can be.

That rule has completely changed over the last few years.

Private sector workers aren't paid by the taxpayer, so beyond worries about inflation and Ireland's cost competitiveness, its really none of my business what private companies choose to pay their employees

5.7% rise minus 5% inflation equals real rise of 0.7%.
