    ATM Charges

Just saw on 6:01 news that banks are thinking of charging us to use ATM's to try and combat 'Tiger Kidnappings' by keeping less cash in branches.
Do they think we are that stupid as to fall for that? the big cash users don't use ATM's if I want to draw out €100 of MY money that I can only be paid into a bank, gone are the days of cash in hand, why should I have to pay extra?
This is just an excuse to try and squeeze more cash out of us to prop up their idiotic practices of the last decade.

What's next? Tesco charging non-refundable entrance fees into their stores to combat shoplifting?

    Too damn right!

These TKs are being carried out by a clique of Dublin Criminals who are 'known to the Gardai'

The Government should put the resorces into catching these criminals and putting them behind bars for a very long time indeed.

Not using this as an excuse to tax us more.

So to encourage a cashless society we got people get bank accounts so that lots of payments could be made electronically, but if we want our money we have to pay to access it? Are the TK's targeting the contents of the ATMs, cos surely they are time locked? Or is it cash held elsewhere in the bank.
Dan Sullivan. I was back but we still couldn't all have a vote.

Well, they presumably get a small fee every time you use your laser card, so they would rather than we didn't pay by cash.

Also, aren't "the banks" supposed to be in competition with each other?

    Just another Stealth tax!

Wait till the greens get hold of the idea for charging us for all the paper waste. Expect a green paper tax on all those notes to follow.

Maybe if the banks here frequently stocked their ATMs with low denomination notes, in order to give *CHANGE* (i.e. €50 dispensed as €20, €10, €10, €5, €5) like in other countries? (England, Germany, Portugal as examples)

They would of course have to restock more frequently as less cash could be held in the ATM, but less cash in the ATM would mean smaller cash-in-transit lots even if more frequent, and less cash in ATMs making the huge exercise of removal less attractive. Plus we'd have less tattered €5 and €10 notes (new notes more frequently entering circulation for old ones to be removed)

It's scandalous at present the way for example the banks try to get away with loading up ATMs with just €50s on a Friday so they don't have to restock over the weekend. Not uncommon to find a lot of ATMs out of cash on Sunday.

Bunch of money-grabbing gangsters. No I'm not referring to the Cash-in-transit robberies.

But it isn't the ATMs doing the kidnapping... banks got billions out of taxpayers and they charge enough fees for "services" as it is. Got my statement today and my bank charged me 0.28c for every time I used the ATM or lodged/ withdrew money. WTF
