Just heard Aherne on RTE radio trying to back track a little by saying the tax/charge he spoke about yesterday isnt a government policy proposal, but just something that has been thought of along with other ways of taking cash out of the economy..

...I was thinking of phoning in to point out that Anglo Irish have seemed to have achieved this on a huge scale already so theres definitely no need to have an official government policy to do the same!

Ah, now you're cooking with gas.
This isn't about Tiger Kidnap robberies at all. Tis a tax to get more revenue for starters as well as a sneaky means to get people spending more money.
Many shops won't accept a card for small transactions meaning you have to buy more shyte you don't actually need if you ain't got cash in pocket.

    jaysus lads .

    im very disappointed in ya.

this isnt about a NEW tax or stopping tiger kidnapping.

this is about tax evasion !

no cash in hand, no black economy.

which thanks to our geniuses in the dept of finance is going through the roof right now thanks to the recent tax increases. the gov would LOVE to have every financial transaction recorded electronically in some form or another as it'd hit every lad and lady out there doing nixers where it hurts.

chuck in the banks, which in the case of anglo they own, the BOI they 30% own, and the AIB theyll 70 - 80 % own by the end of the year, and you'll have virtually the entire banking system in their control

a banking system who's desperate to cut costs and who's single biggest cost is the transportation and storage of cash

banks have been trying to do away with cash for years ! RABBO is cashless right now, first active was before they went bust and NIB will be cashless and wont deal with cheques by the end of 2010.

i'll admit its a nicely spun bit of spin but this is nothing to do with the welfare of bank staff and EVERYTHING to do with killing the black economy and cutting the costs at the financial institutions they own.

the really ridiculous thing is if they DO introduce this charge and its especially punitive (cos as others have pointed out the banks already do charge you to use ATMs at the mo) - all the public will do is que up at the desk again during their lunch breaks.

the whole thing will probably cost thousands of hours of lost labour as people miss work trying to get their wages.

Don't worry, the Green duckwit's already support more ATM charges..less people using ATM's the less electricity that is used so they are saving the planet from climate change!

In reality if their FFer masters tell them to eat poo they will, whatever their masters say they will do....

    ATM charges

This is another case of Zanu-FF of trying to screw the people of Ireland.
Zanu-FF seem to be hell bent on wrecking on a already battered Irish economy.
