I was passing my local primary school yesterday and staff appear to be drifting back. There is a staff car park just inside the gates and I reckon not one of the vehicles, I won't call them cars because some are as big as tanks, cost less than €30k. No depression among those people.

And have any of them been professional teachers, for say, oh maybe 20 years ?

Or could you see properly past the chip on your shoulder ?

So Labour when you are going after the 'rich guys' remember what people who drive the economy are willing to pay for and what they are not and we are for the most part very able to move our business elsewhere.

So you think you have the right to tell people where to take their holidays. IF a person saves up for their holiday the should be able to take them where the like, who in the name of God would want to pay top prices in hotels and restaurants here, Small businesses here all the want is cut the minimum wage.

In fairness, bellyaching about where Public Servants go on holiday is a bit of a stretch.

What we pay public servants should be determined by what we can afford, not where they go on holiday.

Well, if he had to read Myers for information, neither him or Myers who has not a good word to say about our country or our people, We could manage without any of them. Begrudging is their speciality.

Your problem JCR is that you have on over-inflated sense of your own importance in the scheme of things. If you want a decently educated, skilled workforce from which to be able to recruit and think you can pay for that to happen out of your own pocked without recourse to public sector funding, try it and see what happens. In the private sector, the argument is constantly made that you have to pay obscene amounts for the best people - for their skills and experience. Nothing like those amounts are paid in the public sector except at the top of the scale. The average nurse or teacher after 15 years in their job is worth a fortune in terms of ability, skill and experience. They have expended as much committment in their work settings as their counterparts in the private sector do - only on less pay. If you want to create and underclass of public sector workers on purely breadline wages and effectively tell them they are not entitled to home ownership, third level education, medical insurance etc - then watch this country die - and all your business opportunities with it. Public sector pay goes back into the economy - every last cent of it whatever way you add it up. Small businesses are dying because of cuts in public sector pay. Simple.

Would someone please tell JCR that it's actually an FF/PD/Green government that has enabled public servants to purchase and maintain haciendas in the South of France over the past decade. The Labour Party has had no involvement.

It may be necessary to use flip charts, anatomical dolls and nipple clamps to get this message through to him, but whatever it takes, it clearly needs to be done, to save him from insanity.

The fact you're spouting guff on a political website tells me you will.

    1. I doubt very much you employ anyone.

    2. I'm a higher civil servant, managing a larger budget than you'll ever see in your life, in my 40s, and I've never been to the South of France in my life. I've 4 kids, and we went to a campsite in Brittany this year for our holidays (as did a number of my colleagues, as it happens). If you really did work in the private sector (as opposed to whinge about your daddy not giving you enough pocket money) you'd know that's a pretty normal holiday for anyone with kids.

    3. As you've already accepted, the cost of holidaying at home is higher. Are you saying that the kids of civil servants not supposed to have holidays? Or that they should take a more expensive holiday at home, to satisfy your weird obsessions?

    4. Posted at 6am? Just back from a night's clubbing, were you? At least if you were drunk, you've some excuse I suppose. Still, in vino veritas and all that.....

No chip on my shoulder. Just making an observation, and I spent a number of years as a lecturer so I know the payscales. Primary teachers unpromoted with the full range of allowances but working virtually part-time with a 1.30pm finish for about 2/3rds of the year can earn up to €60k at the top of scale. In excess a grand a week for what really is part-time work.
