Kerry. Derry. Damn gook names all sound the same.
However, banks know they have a duty of care to their clients and I'm sure that this should prevent them lending irresponsibly.

'Global Centre of Pharmaceutical Excellence in Tralee'?

Reminds me that there was a pretty reliable dealer in Clash when I used to spend time there in the 70s! Mind you, he was good, but not excellent.

Plenty of smoke. Still not much dagger.

GPCE abandons 'campus' plan - News, frontpage - Kerryman.ie

Meanwhile, even in Derry, where they seem to see this as an opportunity to demonstrate how despirate they are to talk to any investor,
The potential scale of this project will require detailed due diligence to be undertaken by Invest NI and, although requested on a number of occasions, a business plan is still to be presented with details of the proposal.

BTW I forgot to post up before Christmas that Rory Doyle, the main driver behind the project, resigned from the GPCE board.

    Apparently for health reasons!

it was never going to happen ! the business plan had to be flawed , that's why the Govt Investment boards both sides of the border were cool on it and at one stage said there were holes in the proposal . Its the same as the Swansea / Cork ferry debacle , local politicians getting excited about something that had no foundation in hard business terms , they were terrified they would not be seen to be on the bandwagon ! afraid to give real leadership !

no problem with trying Pat Gill at all , I agree , and I am not bellyaching ! what I am saying is that any business plans and schemes ( not all of which fail ) should be looked at in a professional manner with due diligence to all aspects , pros and cons ! it seems that this does not happen all the time when public money is being considered for investment . For example , if you look at the recent Cork / Swansea episode which lost Cork and Kerry councils a pile and for which some council reps stated they "had no regrets " over the lost money , why would they , it was not theirs , the plan was flawed from the start and most competent people would have seen it , it smacked of pure amateurism.
Sorry it seems people get carried along in the music and don't pay enough heed , it is how bad films get made !

Is the article right on this point?
Last March in a day-long series of presentations more than 280 jobs were announced by three international companies in biomedicine, drug-testing and pharmaceutical research. The planned jobs were to be based temporarily in an existing building in the town. However, it afterwards emerged that Tralee was likely to lose out to Derry.
I thought the jobs were pure vapour. The Derry thing isn't going ahead either, is it?
GPCE abandon Derry plans for Tralee - News - Kerryman.ie

BACKERS of the Global Pharmaceutical Centre of Excellence have abandoned any plans to locate in Northern Ireland and say they are now committed to bringing the GPCE project, and 300 jobs, to Tralee.
That said, I can appreciate its hard for a journo to validate facts if
A spokesman for the project could not be contacted last night.

Tilting at windmills isn't productive, and indiscriminate 'give it a lash' support for any idea - no matter how ludicrous and inept - is not to be praised.

At one stage this crowd were touting a letter of support from Biffo, when Taoiseach, to investors in the Middle East. Consider the extent to which that demeans the value of an endorsement from the Irish State. Consider how it could only confirm, in present circumstances, everything that a foreign businessman might think about the competence of the Irish State.

Consider what such an endorsement should mean.
