I am bit shocked to see, these young families bought houses for great deal of money, how come they didnt realized there is no street lights, there is no sewage/drianage, there is no walk ways? Then why you did you paid that kind money? are they conned(surely given most of them working)? are they horried to get "Property ladder"?

Please dont say that to someone who tried to get a roof over their head, and were told Donie Cassidy style, Dan McLoughlin style, get in now, they will be dearer next year. I have a daughter caught in that trap, 100 % loan, and her apt. is only worth half of what she paid for it. Not everybody is as wise as you,or have the brains of banks chief economists, and a Gov of which Clowen was a Finance Minister and Taoiseach, telling all the " fundamentals were sound"! Cop on, its an Irish thing to have a place to live. Its not like betting on a horse which some in FF try and say now.
You'd think Kenny committed Treason and brought in IMF. Cowen had all in stitches in Galway at 3.30a.m.but he was "not impaired" -DD Power. FF=Publican páirtí an IMF.

Irish people are not exactly renowned for thinking logically well certainly a lot of Irish people whoi didn't want to be associated with the "stigma" of renting that they were desperate to buy a house at all costs.

What is 'greedy' about wanting your own home?

They were probably told that these things would be ready before or just after they moved in when they threw down the deposit for the house. Developer then ran out of cash to finish it up.

Like Clongriffin DART - finally finished 2/3 years after it was meant to be. Even though it was one of the 'unique' selling points of the estate.

I'm not an economist but I do believe in a bit of old fashioned common sense when it came to the property market, anyone with half a braincell could see that between 2000-2007 the Irish property boom was unsustainable and was liable to end up in tears, any way I'm renting now and I'm bloody glad not to have taken out a mortgage three or 4 years ago, I'm 30 and I don't intend buying for another couple of years, also Irish people need to change their snobbish mentality towards renting.

Absolutely nothing but paying well and truly over the odds for a house in the arse end of nowhere is sheer madness, it is greed for someone to take out a mortgage 7-10 times their salaries when they could have got a more modest house 4-5 times their salary.

But, but, but.....Rent is 'Dead Money'

Of course interest repayments on a mortgage (Death pledge) could also be called that too
