We need to radically change every system that has enabled the wholesale destruction of the Irish landscape, rural and urban. There is no time for incremental step by step measures. The systems have failed utterly and the only hope for a real recovery requires the rule book to be torn up completely.

    Emigration Checklist

Must buy luggage = Dept Store
need Travel size toiletries and anti air sickness tablets = Pharmaceutical products
Will it be cold in Alaska - i'll buy a fleece and new Uggs = Clothing /Footwear
7 hour flight - i'll buy an ipod nano = Electrical goods
And a book = other retail sales.

yes indeed, sales are booming.... - was trying to be humourous, but some peoples bypasses are more than cardiac...

You'll be shot down soon enough for mentioning any of the positive data out there.

Most would've inherited luggage and a SONY Walkman from the 1980's emigrants!!!

It's a small bit of good news in a week of small bits of good news (including new job announcements) that would lend support to the theory that we'll be out of recession this year. Hopefully this continues. It's hard to argue that we're not recovering faster than Greece or Iceland.

or how about things are just picking up? I'm a landlord and my tenants recently moved out. I put up the rent and had no problem finding tenants for my property at the increased rent. In fact, I had my pick of tenants.

I'm the same actually, I've a place in one of the cities hardest hit by the recession and recently rented it out for 20% more than last year (having admittedly dropped it by 10% for that year). The rental market was never really that devastated from my own experience, it was just people trying to sell that got hammered.
