Taxi drivers taking the piss. Again.

    RTÉ News: Three-hour taxi protest

Once again the taxi drivers are to bring our cities to a standstill in furtherance of their absurd demand for the state to protect them from legitimate competition.

We really need the authorities to stop treating this sort of abuse of the public with kid gloves.

Actions like this need to be outlawed and any driver participating in them should lose his/her licence. In addition the gardaí should be instructed to have a blitz on taxis similar to the blitz on drunk driving at Christmas. Rigid application of the RotR and all laws specific to the industry. PSV licence should be lost after acquiring 6 points.

If they want to protest they can withhold their service. This idea of shutting down the normal business of a city is plain thuggery.

We should nationalise the taxi service eh Biffo, then if they wanted to go on strike it would be ok wouldn't it, cos then they would only be prottecting the low paid worker and saving us all from the "race to the bottom"

They're not going on strike. If they were on strike they'd have the cars locked up at home. They're blocking the streets to prevent people going about their business.

Taxi drivers complain there are too many taxis?

A simple solution would be cancel the Taxi permit of any taxi driver who blocks the street. Thus, there will be no protest, and fewer taxis. Everyone would be happy, no?
