In the real world, not answering the phone would mean that customers would phone the competitors and eventually the phones would stop ringing and business would close down.

Now I know that people here will say that I am engaging in a campaign of PS bashing when I say this and when I suggest that they don’t live in the real world. So where exactly do they live??

My dad is a pensioner and tried to phone whatever office you phone to change details. He got a machine and some message about the internet. Being in his 70s he isn't too I.T savvy. The message said they were on a work to rule.

Can somebody explain how answering the phone isn't part of your job?

Does anyone here think the following items on the list should be sackable offences?

7.The Gardai to withdraw the use of personal equipment such as mobile phones, laptops and digital cameras [on which the policing system has come to depend heavily*. Ed]

8.THe Gardai not responding to phone calls when off duty,[ which presumably could deprive the service of emergency backup in the event of riots or major gangland activity. Ed]

If you refused to use your own phone/laptop for work or failed to answer the phone outside of work hours?

You expect anyone to believe that?

obviously the employer should supply the laptop, phones etc but surely you agree that answering your phone is part of your job?

I read about Gardi having to use their private equipment this week. Is this true? I couldn't believe it!
