I don't know if there has been a study conducted but I suspect there might be a correlation between the high incidence of mental illness in this country and support for FF
When we have an election the next lot will get a chance to improve things.

I wish them the best of luck, but unless they revisit every State Board and Quango appointment made by FF and sack or pension off the top layers of the civil service, they will be staring revolution in the face within 2 years.

Leonie Reynolds was appointed on 22 December. A real case of hiding an appointment. She has just turned 40 which is very very young for a judge.

At least her Dad never gave the current Taoiseach a job!

The sad thing is that FG will do the same. When Bruton seized power in 1994 he instructed all ministers that all positions available must be filled by Fine Gael people. His arguement was that FF had stuffed evey board with their own folowers. That may be true but two wrongs do not make a right.

This is actually a very real issue. Dick Spring referred to it once. When FF are booted out of power, their network, installed over the decades begin to kick in. This takes the form of major mischief making by semi-states, quangos and other state bodies. When FF are out or power, the proposals for closures, rationalisations and the like begin to emerge from all state bodies.

Equally, the other FF networks, such as the GAA, the catholic church, the Unions, and various social conservatives emerge from their hibernations and start decrying any progressive measures.

It is a kind of Irish coup, not even all that subtle, that often brings the country to a virtual standstill.

If FF are booted out next time, the new government will have to face the additional probelm of the total FF dominance in RTE. RTE will become an Irish Rush Limbaugh.

You are very wrong. Albert appointed him to his first ministerial job in the Valentine day massacre when 8 ministers were ditched. Cowen was one of the new country and western set and he has never looked back since, rose without trace, only been a failure in every cabinet post he held. He was also in Angola (Health) for a while. He was also in FA -thats when he sprouted like a dishevelled pig with all the socialising and coctails.
You'd think Kenny committed Treason and brought in IMF. Cowen had all in stitches in Galway at 3.30a.m.but he was "not impaired" -DD Power. FF=Publican páirtí an IMF.
