Dublin Docklands Authority "stinks to high heavens" - FG

Fine Gael TD for Carlow Kilkenny Phil Hogan TD has reacted angrily to the refusal by An Taoiseach Brian Cowen to authorise an investigation into the Dublin Docklands Development Authority by the Comptroller & Auditor General.

Deputy Hogan, in a statment issued this evening said that the Docklands Authority "stinks to hugh heavens".

“The DDDA stinks to high heavens and we have all read in recent times of the massive splurge of expenditure on travel and entertainment there.

“An investigation by the C&AG is badly needed but John Gormley has said on several occasions that, legally, the C&AG cannot get involved with the Authority. However, an amendment to the Dublin Docklands Development Authority Act will allow the C&AG to deal with these matters.

“The DDDA is already on the Order Paper and Fine Gael has an amendment to allow the C&AG get involved. Despite this, in the Dáil today the Taoiseach refused to sanction this. This is beyond disappointing and once again points to Fianna Fáil and the Greens determination to force a whitewash on the goings on at the Docklands.”

What are the details of the allegations?

Hogan is not noted for temperate speech.

The C&AG has a clearly defined remit and that does not extend to the DDDA. So, calling for an investigation by the C&AG is a certain way of ensuring that whatever he is huffing about never gets investigated. Hot air

Here, here. They are an irrelevant body now. Disband the DDA, one less Quango to bleed us dry.

I think the Gardai might have more juristiction than the C&AG when it comes to investigating the goings on in the DDDA.

Time to cut the losses and give control of the area back to DCC, not that they have covered themselves in glory in the D2 and D4 area over the last few years either
We need to radically change every system that has enabled the wholesale destruction of the Irish landscape, rural and urban. There is no time for incremental step by step measures. The systems have failed utterly and the only hope for a real recovery requires the rule book to be torn up completely.
