As maths is prerequisite for all courses, it would disadvantage those who have their heart set on music or other non-mathematical subjects.
It would likely tilt the system even more in the favour of those able to afford grindschools.
Making sure teachers are up to scratch would help a great deal.

I think we're on the same page.I think you need another example. Formal study of music is, surely, mathematical.I don't see how. But what I do see is this. If I was to propose that all subjects be given double points, a considerable minority of people wouldn't see what I just did.
Which, in a small way, contributed to where we are now.Perhaps, but we do have to work with what we have. And most teachers are adequate - and I say that as a non-teacher with school-going children.
