It is rather unusual that one of those proposals is the bones of that "Gateway Ireland" thing of which the proposer was/is project manager. ( Welcome to Gateway Ireland )

A total crock of sh1te - which is exactly what one would expect from a half-baked idea like 'Your Country your Call' If Sean Citizen had come up with a 'brainwave' like this ludicrous scheme, he would have been laughed off the stage, but once Ireland's version of the Bourbons got their talons into it, this scheme was immediately treated with ill-deserved respect by the fawning media.

The thing that really pees me off is that the McAleeses are going to take money off the taxpayer, courtesy of the hapless Batt O'Keeffe, to fund their latest venture into Hello Magazine style governance. At least in Dragon's Den, the entrepeneurs stump up their own money - but when the McAleeses get involved, it's our money that they spend. Respect your betters, peasants of Ireland.

"The Department of Enterprise, Trade and Innovation said yesterday it had not provided money to fund the competition but a spokeswoman said formal arrangements were being put in place to allow a payment to be made. Earlier this year, Your Country, Your Call asked the Department for €300,000 in funding for the initiative."

PS I see that Maccer and hubby are heading off on yet another junket at our expense - to Russia this time. I wonder if there's any chance that they might suffer the same fate as the Romanovs in Ekaterinburg? Fingers crossed.

As pointed out, vacuous nonsense. But then the purpose of this exercise is to reassure us plebs and give La McAleese and hubby some headlines.

For example, one of the ideas is a media hub. Did anyone ask the permagrinning Ryan as he got his photo taken at the launch, how we expect to do this when, after he's been Minister of Communications for 3 years, Ireland has the slowest broadband in the developed world bar Mexico, a country in the middle of a vicious narco war?

Cargo cultish nonsense. It seems that as long as we slap a logo or branding on something, well, we don't actually have to _do_ anything.

Actually a poster on property pin made the most brilliant proposal of marketing Ireland as a centre of excellence in how to completely ************************ everything up.

    Housing
    Banking
    Healthcare
    Childcare
    Industry
    Immigration
    Welfare
    Roads
    Law and Order
    Water
    Energy
    Waste
    Planning
    Communications
    Employment Law
    Defence

Charge others to come study and learn from us how not to do it.

The truth is incontrovertible, malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end; there it is.

There weren't nearly enough buzz words in that. You didn't "incubate" anything, nor did you foster, grow, or promote. There wasn't a greenhouse of ideas there at all.
    A poster of some consequence...

I full intend to proactively leverage my synergies by running them up a flagpole ASAP.

So the winning "ideas" are to establish Ireland as a “global media hub” and a “data island” .

'Media hub' and 'data island' take prize - The Irish Times - Fri, Sep 17, 2010

Screen writer and digital media consultant Neil Leyden made the global media hub proposal.
He said it would involve creating an Irish Content Industry Association and a media park to attract global content industries.
What does that actually mean? Does anyone know?

The data island strategy proposed by Cianán Clancy and Colm MacFhlannachadha involves developing green “mega data centres” and an international innovation area.
    Right so Ted.

Might one need electricity for a "data island"?

Might electricity be rather expensive in Ireland?

Well thats where we employ 100,000 unemployed people to peddle bicycles with dynamos on them. These jobs will be "high end" and enable us to "synergise" inovation and job creation in one event.
