The Wall Street Journal reports that a group of large hedge funds have colluded to bet against the euro on the financial markets. The paper says that a "small group of all-star hedge-fund managers" agreed at a dinner in Manhattan earlier this month that the euro is likely to fall to "parity" with the dollar, and that the funds have launched "large bearish bets" on this basis. The funds included Soros Fund Management, run by billionaire investor George Soros. Soros warned last week that "the euro may fall apart" if the EU does not fix its public finances. Governments of EU member states have become increasingly critical in recent weeks of "speculators" on the financial markets, accusing them of exacerbating the Greek debt crisis.

Well its not first time before 1976 collapsed, followed men from IMF cleaned up. I doubt IMF cant deal now with UK coz its "Too big ".

If I remember correctly, Tony Benn contends that the British Government needn't have called in the IMF as the economy was on the verge of recovery at the time and, consequently, did recover. Therefore, in his opinion, the harsh cuts (£4 billion) forced upon the UK by the IMF were unnecessary.
