According to the Irish Independent today Ryanair offered to buy Hangar 6 for 13 million( the market value determined by the DAA in its payment to SR Technics) with the creation of 500 jobs.
They also agreed to lease it for 200,000 a year, the existing rate and agreed to only use it for heavy aircraft maintenance. IDA chief Barry o Leary was so delighted with their offer that he declared it" the largest job creation success story in Ireland in 2009".
The offer was made before SRT had vacated Ireland and months before Aer Lingus had moved in with no jobs created. In fact Aer Lingus retained 96 out of 250 jobs in line maintenance in return for Hangar 6.
The Taoiseach and the Tainiste I believe have misled the Dail and the Ex SRT workers about their reasons for rejecting Ryanairs offer and about the circumstances under which the lease was given to Aer Lingus.
I believe this to be a far bigger story with far greater consequences for this Government than the Willie o Dea story and therefore I believe it merits a seperate thread to the one already running on a related issue.
There are 500 highly skilled workers and their families currently unnecessarily unemployed today because of Brian Cowen and Mary Coughlans problems with Michael o Leary.
They were offered 500 jobs at the height of a jobs crisis. Why did they reject this offer? Do we have 500 unemployed people in this country because of the personal pride of our Taoiseach and Tainiste?
