The article says that the DAA and Aer Lingus are in talks about renegotiating the lease arrangements between them, not that the DAA has agreed to foregoing the penalty clauses.
Aer Lingus believe they have something that the DAA may want and are using it as leverage to at least reduce the penalty clauses should they decide to withdraw from their lease agreement, if Aer Lingus management did anything less they would be negligent to the interests of their shareholders.

this is why many doubt Ryanair's bona fides in this matter and given the timing of his release of his correspondence with Mary Coughlan suspect it is just Michael O'Leary continuing his phony war against the DAA and the Government .

There's no question, but that he is trying to cause maximum discomfort and embarrassment for the government (he has said this). Where he may have miscalculated I think, is he may have expected them to put the interests of the country first regardless.

This thread seems to have tapered off of late.

Anyone reckon the issue will be brought up in Leinster House in the forseeable - presumably when the Competition Authority rules on it, no?
