We were going to waste 3bn euro building new homes for communities in Limerick that decided to burn down the ones they already got for free. This was some silly idea that this time they'd behave if we gave them another new free house. The people who give the least to the country (bar crime) were going to get yet more of our money, that we earn.
3bn is a lot of money to save. While our government are clowns , this was great work.

I don't know about building new houses, but their is a cost to doing nothing. The people dragging these areas down will grow in numbers, not just by producing more children who will follow in their footsteps. But by dragging the offspring of many of their unfortunate neighbours down to their level. It is incredibly hard to raise good citizens when you are living with these neighbours from hell. And unless you have seen how these people live their lives and how they impact on every facet of the lives around them it is almost impossible to comprehend.
If they are not going to give the people who want to do better a chance to get away they have to clamp down on the troublemakers and they have to invest in saving their children. Otherwise the cost will grow with every generation.

€3bn would be enough to build 15,000!
Houses don't commit crimes, I've never understand this knock and rebuild idea. Look at Ballymun, same thing on a smaller scale.
The "deprived" areas in Limerick are crawling with social workers and community centres. It's clearly a strategy that is not working.

And the government wants to pump 90 Billion Euro into the insolvent banks and guarantee 500 Billion Euro of their assets and liabilities.
If we had the population of the United States that would be the equivilent value of nearly 8 trillion of TARP and TALP funds and a guarantee of up to 40 Trillion Dollars.
The financial assets of the entire planet is about 70 Trillion Dollars in comparison.
