Excellent thread. Sorry I did not get involved earlier but I was taking a break from P. ie while the whole George Lee stupidity blew over.

I have read all posts and it seems to me that most of the ideas you asked for have been covered. Even the posts pointing out the corruption and cartels that would need to be overcome are important contributions to a debate such as this because they are real obstacles.

What this thread shows is that the ideas, the imagination, the innovation and most importantly the people, all exist in this country.

The money to develop these ideas will come when these people get the freedom and the backing to develop and promote their plans.

This will not happen, in my opinion while the people at the top of the current political system including political parties, civil servants, state depts and semi state bodies remain in place.

There may be good people within these institutions but they are being smothered. Real reform and real change is needed.

This thread is proof that this country has something to offer if this change was realised. The formation of a new political party with this sort of economic vision as its aim and the need to enact real reform as its method of achieving this vision is exactly what this country needs at this moment in time.

A proper peoples revolution. No need for the spilling of blood just an overwhelming desire to move away from our political dotage of the past.

Yup, I think we're on pretty much the same page here Mitsui

I too know quite a few people who are only in their 20s but have still somehow had that 1940s Holy Catholic Ireland mentality bate into them. The "education" system has a lot of crimes to answer for, and this particular abuse not the least.

No process of reform will be remotely credible unless it destroys what Pearse called the Murder Machine. No matter what your view of Pearse in general, he was indisputably right about that.

Spot on. The Machine that the Pearse-praising new State left puttering away at its heart.

MySpace is sooooo 2008. Facebook took them out much like video did the radio star. Now Google's Canadian branch has released "Buzz" which is set to take on Facebook and Twitter and Flickr all at once.

It'll be very interesting to see where Google tries out their first foray into fiber-optic transmission lines. I'd love to see us throw our name into the hat and try to benefit from being the guinea pig.

Google already have ''Orkut'' which is apparently huge in South America and works in tandem with your Gmail account once you sign up.
