Some one ring the MD of Halifax (Gordon Brown?) and tell him we voted yes to lisbon.
Get that Y..E..S! YES - TO JOB'S.
People say Jesus wasn't a jew but we know he Isreali
yeah this was well flagged a few months ago.
TBH im amazed halifax lasted this long. not to demean the bank itself but they were talking about pulling out of ireland well before christmas.
theres been alot of stuff from the media about bankers being bailed out but the fact it us lads in the financial sector are seeing whats going on and this is just the start.
i reckon your looking at 16k going from AIB and BOI. in fact it could be 16k each. NIB has already closed near half its branches and if it goes cashless like ive been hearing rumours about then i wouldnt hold out much hope for alot of those remaining branches as thats one step away from being a PC only bank like RABO.
To my knowledge the only other bank that went cashless was first active and theyve closed ALL their branches now and sacked their staff , operating out of ulster bank now instead.
to be sure its the frontline staff that deal with customers that are taking the brunt of it but thats no surprise in this sector.
on the OP.
Makes me glad i stuck with my job. i was tempted to go over to em when they opened up here a few years back and in fairness to em if it wasnt for halifax ALL your credit cards would have a rate of 18% as it was competition from them that shook up that market (their initial credit card was 10% IIRC) so at least we can be gratefull for that.
As well as a huge blow to the individuals concerned, this is also a loss to the consumer in Ireland.
Aside from their injection of real competition in the Irish banking sector, Halifax offered excellent customer service: their call centre staff in Dundalk are second-to-none (I have banked in the past with Ulster, BofI, and Irish Nationwide).
They also had a customer-focused approach to how they ran things, instead of an institution-friendly outlook, in everything from their online banking facilities to their application procedures.
Their demise is further bad news for everyone concerned about the state of banking in Ireland.
Unenthusiastic about any of the buggers.
