If someone deserves social welfare benefit they should get it.
So just another PS bashing move then?

When a private sector worker is sick I think they get no sw for the 1st 3 days, maybe that should be introduced for the PS, it might have a significant reduction of quick sickies, what do you think? .

Since when does time spent at work = work done anyway? Most people have a job to do, if they get it done who cares how long they spend at their place of work?

If you can afford to take an excessive amount of sick days and still stay on top of your work, perhaps the employer should be thinking about redeploying you/cutting your hours or pay/finding new tasks for you to perform. But that's up to individual employers to decide on a case by case basis surely?

Remember, you are selling your labour to your employer, not little segments of your life.

When short term disability benefit is claimed by the sick private worker, the rate is quite restricted, maybe the non statutory sick pay in the public sector should be applied in the same way?.

Maybe the over generous private sector sick pay schemes should equally be restricted. There should be no monetary advantage for any worker to make it attractive to take a quick sickie?

People who are genuinely sick should be and are looked after. No one suggested that genuily sick people are to be considered lazy.

Private or public sector why do you see any differance?

Do we want to find ways to make this economy more competitive ar not?

Do we need to find ways to be more productive compared to other economies?

Only if it will make our citizens happier, fairer, freer, more fulfilled human beings.

That's the kind of caring attitude I like to see. Late last year, I had a severe intestinal bug which meant I spent two full days vomiting. If I worked in your place, I would have come in to work as normal, and I would have made sure I was sitting beside you.

Last year one of my co-workers had a similar bug to you and came back after 2 days. The boss was very sympathetic and did pay them for their 2 days.

The discussion here was centered people being lazy and why "quick sick days"
    are so common.

I hope your bug wasn't self inflicted through abuse of alcohol, otherwise you have my sympathy.

    I'm suspicious of your story.

I agree with this general gist. If one person takes 5 hours to do what takes 8 hours, the first guy should be able to take time off. My problem is with the overtime that others clock up as cover.
