Coolock isn't just Ireland focussed, a lot of their product is exported to North America and Mexico because Cadbury Ireland is perceived to be a premium brand compared to Cadbury UK or the local stores. Retailers are often given the choice between the two brands. They also make Twirl, Flake and Time Out which aren't made anywhere else. €250m worth of chocolate is exported from Ireland every year.

In essence I would see some job losses to be the factories outside of the UK and Ireland, simply by taking in their production facilities within Kraft factories. What happens with the UK & Ireland sites is not so certain, the Rathmore site is quite modern and supplies chocolate crumb all over the world.

It is more likely in my opinion that the bulk of the job losses will be in the UK rather than Ireland. Kraft's main reason to buy Cadbury's is to allow themselves access to developing markets and markets that Cadbury were king in. The Middle East, Africa and India being the prime examples.

Why do you keep saying this? It's not crap, it's a very real possibility of yet more job losses and we are discussing it here.

Granted, but they were saying the same thing about Dell for circa 3 or 4 years before the announcement. The staff from Limerick who went to Poland to set up the factory and train up the staff all came back saying Limerick was gone long before any 'decision' was made.

That is the way multi nationals operate. No point in dreaming. We have seen Dell, Macintosh, Microsoft. Gateway, Digital as prime examples.
The logic-free zone that is Irish politics.

Cadbury will stay here if the workers take a pay cut of 30% and if energy costs are reduced significantly.

I`d have my doubts about the energy costs being cut.

I suspect the energy costs are more important than wage rates. A lot will depend on how profitable the factory is, the 12% tax rate is a great incentive to keep production in Ireland.
