Thats a fact, the regulator would not allow ESB to compete with Bord Gais or Eirtricity until very recently and later this year when ESB start to sell gas he will prevent Bord Gais from competing on price.

Now thats what you call real competitive markets

And the effect of all this competition in our energy markets is that I receive letters and Emails like the following every day

I have read these comments with interest. Last year I completed an Honours Degree in Sustainable Energy Mgt. I graduated with first class honours. I spent 13 years working an an equipment engineer previously to this. I thought that the "next big thing" in Ireland HAD to be renewable energy, we have an abundance of resources available and could become an energy exporter quite easily. I based my FYP on this. It appears I have wasted my time. To get a job in the renewable sector post qualification I would have had to move to Scotland to do so.
Currently I am back studying for a masters Degree part-time, playing the wait and see game.

I wish you good luck with the new launch. I hope your not expecting our fearless leaders in Gov. to help out, they seem to preoccupied with bringing down the price of booze and coming up with pointless "buzz words" like smart economy, to pay you much attention.

That said, any attempt that is made to better the cause of renewable energy in particular, wave and wind , I strongly welcome, and if you feel I might be able to contribute anything of use, I will be more than happy to engage with the group and help out.

The stormy seas around the Blasket Islands in Kerry and Broadhaven Bay in Co. Mayo, could become the nations powerhouse.

The ESB has made an application for three foreshore exploration licences to test the power of the waves off the west coast.

It represents a step forward in the green energy revolution, which aims to ensure that Ireland is carbon neutral by the year 2035.

Wonder will they have much competition??

FF - Good to see some postings

It still amazes me why all ESB customers didn`t move over to Bord Gais with the 14% price cut. That is Irish people for you.

In England they would move if they saved 1%

It's the classic issue of "better the devil you know"
We're not used to competition here.
Certainly there's a massive amount of churn in the commercial market.

Your approximations and averages are wrong - very wrong.
Are you using figures from 2008 or early 2009?

.
I had to read this several times before I figured out what they were trying to say - a variation on the old "if the queen had balls she'd be king". It should be relatively easy to calculate the average cost/kW across the EU for gas and for electricity for domestic and industrial use and compare them to what we get charged.
