They lost their bonuses when the country became bankrupt.

    Im crying my eyes out

`Should these people not be sacked for the passive role they appear to have taken when the economy floundered. Bonuses on the way up , 3% cut on the way down.

it doesn't matter what public servants are paid in other countries

what matters is what we can afford to pay ours and that amount is falling rapidly

Page 6 of the report very clearly states that the recommendation was for the pay cuts be on top of the cuts to bonuses.

Regarding performance-related payments, we remain committed to the concept for the higher management grades but, in recognition of the very serious state of the public finances, we recommend that such payments be suspended until 2012, when they should be reviewed again.

Harry McGee says lobbying did the trick. Look who the lobbyists were working for -

the grades include senior ambassadors, the chair of the Competition Authority, the chair of the Labour Court and the chair of Refugee Appeals Commission.

Others in this bracket include the chief executive of the National Council for Special Education; the chief executive of the Public Appointments Service; the OPW commissioner; the Data Protection commissioner; senior Garda and Army personnel; the Ombudsman; the Director of Corporate Enforcement; and the Met Éireann director.
