What are chances of CPSU and others withdrawing threat of industrial action if the cuts are applied fairly across grades as originally announced?

Actually, a relevant question for Lenihan to answer is, following these latest cuts (and reversals), has the basic salary gap between highest and lowest paid civil and public servants a) lessened b) widened or c) stayed the same ? If "A" or "C", he's probably done the right thing, but if it's "B", then Lenny should go.

As the situation currently stands i am for industrial action, if i see fairness and equality of treatment i would be against industrial action.

A journo friend of mine found this out. He asked how many had sanction but couldn't get an answer so is puttin in a FOI request.

Probably sanction is like the performance related bonus which apparently all eligible top public servants got (surprise surprise).

Fees for state boards vary but many pay €14,000 pa - not bad for attending a few meetings in office hours - something to do when you have finished the IT crossword.
    How right you were.

    Mindboggling stuff here.

Molloy got €90,000 in board role now done for free - National News, Frontpage - Independent.ie

Officials said Mr Molloy was able to collect the fees because of a technicality over the grouping of certain state agencies.

If we had an honours system in this country as promoted by Mr Sterling Deposit he would be now known as

    SIR RODDY MOLLOY

for the invaluable work he did for the public service

A spokeswoman said that as FS was not considered an "associated body" of ForFS, Mr Molloy had been entitled to the payments.

That's what worries me. That, even under extreme conditions, he couldn't just give these guys the bums rush. It's even worse than weak...

enda and FG are having a field day over this.
enda was on the 9 oclock news last week critising the back track - also heard him on the radio when this became public knowledge.
hes really sticking the knife in.
really really easy points i know but fair play to him for maximising it

What bother me about this is that a minister who believes that those on salaries in excess of 150,000 Euro plus should have their pay cut by less than 3 % while cleaners on 24, 000 a year should have their salaries cut by 5%...... Any minister or government that stands over or condones this type of action should not be considerd fit to govern....They are a disgrace...

    I wish him good health.

However I believe he has been a poor minister for Finance. He may be tricked into thinking he has done a good job when he reads commendations from the 'yes men' in our press. They are of course representatives of the fat salaried types with the 100k + salaries and the juicy untaxed margins who have benefited from his largesse . i.e. Bankers, Economists, higher civil servants etc..

His most memorable failures were IMO:

1 - the introduction of blanket guarantee for bank incompetence in support of the 'free market!'
2 - abysmal failure to tackle the gross inequity of the PRSI ceiling and commence rebalancing of income differentials between rich and poor
3 - the underhand salary present given to the highest paid civil 'servants' (lords more like) in the land before Christmas.

His attempt at distancing this last deceitful act from the earlier mugging of low paid civil servants with the pretence that it was funded from an 'abolished bonus' truly shows us the awesome political talent of this minister.

And to think he is the best of them !
