    Should Ireland Abandon the euro?

    Hello.

We are in financial trouble and our debts are spiralling out of control, Ireland along with other EuroZone Nations are unable to break free from recession because of the european single currency which is incredibly high against competitors like the US Dollar & Pound Sterling.

Greece and Ireland according to various reports may Leave the Euro Next Year, The consequences of this would be groundbreaking and possibly shake the whole structure of the European Union Monetary Policy.

Opponents are saying if it wasn't for the euro, we'd be like Iceland who suffered an economic implosion... Yet Iceland had only one bang and are on their way to fully recovering and their currency which is weaker is allowing them to grow healthily & Constructively under IMF Supervision/Guidance.

The Euro may have cushioned and Iceland style bang.... But it is harming members slowly and only causing great pain that is delaying recovery.

I personally would welcome back the Punt, it would enable us to control our own prices and would relate specifically to our own economic state.... The Euro was never going to be a Suitable Currency for all of Europe due to the completely different economic stages of each member which vary incredibly.

Fully agree. Never liked the stinking rancid Euro to begin with.

I thought it was a good idea until I read your poll

Yes, we need to leave & devalue it's the only way to recover
Yes, we need a currency we can control... The Euro was doomed
No, It is a stable currency even though the rate is too strong
No, it would mean being disloyal to the EU & ECB

If you are going to load the survey, why bother?
    why didn't you go for

Yes, the North Korean model is the way to go
No, the Euro is better than being Iceland and having the IMF run the show

What about joining £Stg, after all the UK are one of our largest trading partners and it does not look like they will be joining the Euro for a very long time if ever..?

Should P.ie close all "Leave the Euro" threads as there are by now more than 40 million of them? Can we have a poll on this please.

There are several threads on this same topic already :

    http://www.politics.ie/economy/66173...itch-euro.html
    http://www.politics.ie/economy/12040...on-2010-a.html

Perhaps in future you should have a browse through the forum before creating a new thread on a topic that's already being discussed.

There isn't a poll SLX about public opinion....

Having a poll to identify irish perception of leaving the euro hasn't been published and I think it is very relevant aswell as deserving its own separate thread.

This is just a Yes or No Answer to find out if this is what people want.

    P.S.

PaulP, Iceland are over their financial nightmare and in a better bloody position than us... I'd Rather have the IMF Running the Country than the idiots in charge of Finance like Brian Lenihan

You started this negrep first by landing the primary punch... If you disagreed with it, Why not be a man and ask for it to be closed?

This Thread is supposed to be about discovering what Irish People Think of Leaving the Euro, there isn't anything yet for finding out the general consensus of having our own currency back.

The euro should be abandoned. It is a symbol of capitalist repression.
