I agree with OP and probably the (only) most soul searching thread ever p.ie so far. Every one want to become hero blaming FF even they fart. Yes, they got us into this mess. But we have voted them not once not twice, thrice. 12 years same govt and we selling our services internally building houses and selling to each other internally eroded manufacturing and research sector. Its too late, China and India light yrs ahead of the game.

Few yrs I came across a thread in boards, amount of alcohol you spent on weekend. Whether it is true or not I dont know but most of them claimed 100-150 on night out in yr 2006/7. That is whopping 3000 yoyo on yr booze it self. What does FF has do with your own recklessness?

Early 2007 hoards of ppl boarded on New York/LA for shopping trips for designer goods. Again it has nothing do with Govt. Its us.

Early 2007 German ambassador said “By jesus lads you guys drive more beemers then Germany” everybody bashed him for his comment. Hello it is Germany highest service/manufacturing export oriented market in EU.

2007 people started buying properties as far Bulgaria. My god, what the fk ur thinking? Do you think where ever Ryan Air flies you could buy shoe boxes money borrowed. Thank good ness Ryan air didnt flew us into Dubai, if they did by this time Irish must owning 95% Dubai aptments.

Everyone including my self indulged recklessly spent money like there is no tommarow. Now we are all blaming FF. FF didnt' said togo and shop NY/LA. Their manifesto didnt said every citizen has to drink 300 euro pm.

Now when the ******************** hits the fan, we are blaming FF, followed EU, Lisbon I/II, Public Sector, Private Sector (Builders/Bankers/developers).

Time for kop the fk on... Time for Soul search.

I don't buy this Original Sin argument - i don't share collective guilt with the clowns, public servants and business interests that FF whored votes from.
FF said that the only important thing was the economy and they fudged the numbers and built unsustainable economic activity to support their argument - you and i were hoodwinked by Ahern you spent money because you where told the good times where here to stay, you were convinced by powerpoint presentations and dodgy forecasts.
You were bedazzled with property supplements and easy credit. The banks where unregulated and criminal in their lending activity.
You were intoxicated with tax cuts and SSIAs.
    Your reason was bought.

Some where down the road, we like the germans under hitler, can reflect on our part in this but it is an irrelavance while we still have FF at the wheel and we still have the same bankers at the till.

The role of Political Leaders is to make the decisions that the average man cannot and bear full accountability for failure.
The decisions that Cowen and Lenihan takes now are the easy decisions. they call them the "tough decisions" and then in another breathe say that they are the only option. How can the only option be a tough decision.
Ahern, Cowen etc had an imperative to make tough decisions like building sustainable economy and reining in uncontrolled and wreckless growth.
instead they used their time in government to give us what we wanted and not what we needed. So we end up ruined and bloated.

And for that they must get their comeuppance or we will be doomed to this cycle forever. You say we where complicit in the bust but i say we are far more complicit if we let them get away with it!!!!
The early bird may get the worm - but the second mouse gets the cheese.
