"Cutting quangos" is just a cliché. There are staff working in these quangos and they are members of public sector unions. The union leaders are happy to roll of the phrase lets all cut the quangos - but any cuts won't be real because the unions won't accept anything except redeployment of employees. You will just end up with a HSE scenario whereby we cut all the quangos of the healthboards and then just subsumed them into other bodies saving us no money whatsoever.

Don't agree.. Where does this "job for life" notion come from?..

Who has the authority under our constitution to give some citizens jobs for life while other citizens have to fend for themselves?

    What is "statutory redundancy" ?

Not if a Govt any Govt grew some balls and ignored ridiculous requests from unions.

The IMF will do it anyway.

Why do you imply that members of "public sector unions" are special?

If they are surplus to requirements then get rid of them!.. I don't understand your point?

I agree this should be the case, but it is not.

Rather than risk a legal challenge from Molloy, the government rolled over and paid him off. They would do the same again as this is how they work.

One can only laugh at the idea of someone like O Leary being government and those who advocate such a crazy idea need to look out their front doors and have a look at the real world

A condensed version was wished for. Does not Mr O'Leary not think the Gov't is rubbish? All the things he mentioned, and advocated getting rid of, were set up by Gov't. Hence, "The Gov't is rubbish" as a condensed version.

If he didn't spout so much profanity himself, he'd be more listenable and less off-putting to hear. Some interesting ideas become less so with profanity.

If you agree that it should be the case then fight for it... This government has no balls as personified by Cowen who would roll over for a pixie..

Cowen should be held personaly liable for paying off Molloy as I certainly didn't authorise anyone to give my hard earned cash away.

How have we become so imasculated to feebly accept this sort of crap!

Meh.... I think we should try someone like him in government

Else the government will have to hire him.... to fly us all out of the country !

Seriously though he is a pretty bright guy... genuinely very smart.... and not as glib as you might think... he is rumoured to still want entry to FG... What role could they use him in ?

Would he be an asset before the election ?
Or give him some post after the election ?

What post could he have ? Efficiency & Modernization Czar for the whole PS ?
