Perhaps they could follow Denmark's example of offering 13K to then to return home. I know it's bit rich coming from the Limerick mayor.

The Economic burden of paying the dole to them -Foregin nationals is huge given the the fact our Dole rate is the highest in Europe compared to Uk dole of 63 pounds in Sterling. Our dole rate encourages them to stay/linger on until our Economic situation improves

We have over 300,000 Irish People unemployed and they have to wait several months now before they can claim the dole..... the one that will be cut next month?
So can all Irish passport holders abroad who are unemployed return to Ireland and claim benefit here ? If somebody has worked and paid tax they are entitled to claim benefits.

Does FG have a BNP-style faction within ? This needs to be exposed for people to realise yet another reason why Fine Gael should never be part of a government.

yeah, but many Irish people who pay stamps are also burdens on the state.

e.g someone on 24k a year would have paid appox 720 euro in PRSI, that would cover 3 and a half weeks of dole. anything after that, they are a net burden.

Same applies to foreign EU citizens who have 'paid' their taxes and prsi.............it wouldnt cover a month of dole, yet I doubt they only claim for a month.

Our social welfare payments are too generous for the amount people pay into the system. Too many are draining the resources and too few are paying into it, at too little a contribution.

Swastikas are actually a Buddhist or Hindu symbol which was hijacked by the Nazis.... Read a book and you'll find it.

Why should we be looking after others when they already have homes to go to?

The mayor of Limerick does not want to make life easy for those who remain either.

People on dole ?should sweep the streets? | Irish Examiner

People on dole ‘should sweep the streets’
    By Jimmy Woulfe
    TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 10, 2009

THE Mayor of Limerick said yesterday that people drawing the dole would be better off sweeping the streets rather than sitting at home doing nothing.

Cllr Kevin Kiely said: "The days of giving people money for nothing are gone. That was OK in the days of the Celtic Tiger, but now the country is going broke.

"There needs to be a whole review of the dole and we should be encouraging people on the dole to get out into the community and get actively involved in various projects. They could do community work, they could do work for local authorities, they could sweep the street and paint the homes of elderly people."

Meanwhile, the Limerick Regeneration Agency will be anxiously waiting to see how they fare in theDecember budget.

And the head of the Dell task force Denis Brosnan has stated that their work will be a waste of time, if the Government does not act on their recommendations which have been sent to members of the cabinet.

Tánaiste Mary Coughlan met with Mr Brosnan last Friday in Limerick and said afterwards: "It is my earnest hope we can finalise the work of the task force."

    Its all so mystifying.

The Irish Times convinced me that mass immigration was 'a very good thing' with absolutely no downside.

We needed all these people to pay for our retirement, teach us how to cook etc etc.

    Farcical.

Sad part is that immigration can help a country if handled intelligently as opposed to the bo11ox we made of it. Too many lefty fkwits were allowed to inform public opinion on the issue.

I know this guy is obviously on the fringe of the spectrum, but it really doesn't look good for an elected representitive in Ireland to be calling for the deportation of people legally here, keeping in mind that we have an estimated 50,000 illegal immigrants living in the States who we constantly speak on the behalf of.

The UK dole is only 51 a week if you're under 25....

After 6 months they put you through job search courses which I think are really means of trying to break you psychologically so you sign off...

First its a 2 week course, then 3 months and then 6 months etc.

He's a councillor for Gods sake

And he is accurately giving voice to an idea that is massively prevalent right across the country - particularly in the working and middle classes.

Might not be particularly PC - but when you see a guy in front of you at the welfare office with 6 or 7 welfare cards that he using to collect for all his buddies living back in Eastern Europe - This is not an urban myth - I have seen this with my own eyes and its the widespread abuse of the system by our cynical eastern European cousins , both those already returned to there and those who are here who barely spend a penny, don't socialize with the natives and spend a lot of their time giving about the natives..................well what do you expect.

I know that is a bit of a generalization and its is probably not flavour of the month in the liberal circles - but it is real and live conversation among many many people in this country.

The mainstream political parties can either decide to engage with this conversation - or somebody else will emerge wrapped in the flag with simple ideas addressing this constitutency and then the proverbial brown stuff will hit the fan...............your choice
