Fair play to Willie O'Dea for backing Mayor Kiely's right to his opinion and opposing demands from the PC-brigade for his resignation:

FG can only gain from this if they stand their ground. The PC-brigade elite in the Irish Left think they are the conscience of Ireland and the time has come for a showdown with them. The Irish people already have consciences and don't need them handed down chapter and verse from the Labour Party or Alan Kelly MEP.

Who is running the country ? Who is likely to be running the country in twelve months ? If you think the 'left' is the problem , then you are part of the problem yourself !

The American Left helped cause the sub-prime crisis through the Community Reinvestment Act 1995 which forced banks to take on subprime borrowers just because they were disproportionately from ethnic-minorities. It was presented as an 'anti-racism' measure, but it was economic lunacy because they couldn't afford to repay the loans. I am opposed to racism, but this is an example of how the heart rules the head where the Left and economic-policy are concerned. And this has been a leftwing govt since 2004 when Bertie came out as a Socialist and exiled McCreevy to Europe. Cowen implemented the failed policies of benchmarking, which created the €20 billion hole in the public-finances. Labour are institutionally-bound to the unions so would have approved it had they been in govt at the time.

Well I suppose Kevin Kiely saw that negative comments about immigrants made by party colleague Jim Long
before the last local elections did him no harm at all so he was pretty safe to shoot his mouth off. They obviously feel there's quite a few members of the public that are in agreement with them and on that score I'd say they are probably right.

Indeed , thats why it needs to be exposed . FG in limerick have made a lot of capital out of this and they need to be challenged . Are Jim Long and Mayor Kiely misleading the electorate ? Imo , yes . I will write to Enda if need be , but can an FGer not just clarify it here and now ?

Indeed O'Dea is as cunning as a fox.He is covering all his bases here.He is stating his pro-European stance per party policy but slyly making sure his voters know he is aware of their concerns vis-a-vis immigrants adding to our economic woes.A dirty dog is O'Dea with no scruples whatsoever who will use any circumstance to ensure votes come his way.In a way you can't but admire the man as he goes about his business of increasing his vote election by election.Even if FF suffer big losses in the next General Election O'Dea will coast in, although possibly not topping the poll this time.

You surely don't expect anybody to admit to FG using dirty tricks do you? All political parties use and mislead the public to garner votes and other support. It's not their fault that there are many gullible and easily influenced people roaming about this country but they sure as hell will use it to their advantage.

Probably pretty true. They are far too busy ripping off the Irish to concern themselves with the immigrants.
