Idea : The Economic Mismanagement Redress Board

When the recession is finally over, and we have a new Government in power, I believe we should have an organisation established to investigate the economic mismanagement and lax regulation that led to the shambles we have now.

Such an organisation can hold public hearings, and would be empowered to compel people like Brian Cowen, the Head of the Central Bank, and the Financial Regulator and their staff and officers to appear and answer questions.

This would not be an expensive tribunal - (nobody gets barristers like the current tribunals). Indeed it will be self-financing.

The Economic Mismanagement Redress Board would issue its findings and judgements, and if any person is found to have been guilty, negligent or irresponsible, then the penalty is that their pensions and entitelments would be withdrawn and they would be given just the basic state pension. They would also be required to pay back the salaries they earned while in their positions, and if unable to do so, their assets would be required to be handed over to the state. Obviously nobody wants to see them homeless so local authority housing would be provided.

The Redress board would fund itself from the repaid funds, and the surplus would be used to pay off the National Debt.

    What do you think ?

Gordon Browne is paying back expenses as are all the other UK politicians.

What is funny? Even in the UK they were 'operating within guidelines' but it was found that the expenses were excessive.

So.. the REAL question is why does our corrupt dynasty have the right to keep and horde all the cash for themsleves??

Because Irish people are, by and large, are stupid and as lazy as the worst cliches told about us down through the years.

The point I'm making is if you or I went into work and acted the goat and made a complete shambles of whatever we are supposed to be doing for our wages, It wouldn't be long before we would be shown the door and sent home.

We need genuine accountability for what happened to our economy, and the only way we can ensure it never happens again is by holding those responsible financially liable for the damages.

This sounds like a great proposal. At least FF would learn about consequences as they will never learn to admit responsibility.

That presumes some one would have been stupid enough to have employed you in the 1st place.

There is something satisfying about the thought of Biffo, McCreevy, Ahern and Harney and the other architects of this shambles being held to account to the extent that they spend the rest of their days in Moyross or somewhere similar on a state pension. Throw in the court jesters, the mindlessly incompetent and L'Oreal types like Cullen, O'Donoghue, O'Cuiv and Coughlan and you could populate a whole cul-de-sac with these contemptable shysters. Nice thought, but it won't happen. With apologies to large fowl everywhere, turkeys don't vote for Christmas.

Not another quango please. We wouldnt notice if 80% of those quangos disappeared today. I think that's one lesson we can learn from the "boom".

Didn't think you'd go for that since FF don't do apologies, let alone resignations for their criminal mismanagement of the country at so many levels
