Cllr. Gilligan is on page 5 today of the Irish Independent for using oireachtas envelopes for his business. Apparently a 'part-time' worker mistakenly used them but he fails to explain why the part-time worker for his business was working from his SDCC office!!

    But wait..
"at the end of the day, it was only a few envelopes"...priceless!

it would be really great if people wouldn't just talk about sinn fein and labour here. why not discuss the performance of all the members/parties elected to sdcc?

We need a name for this condition; it's increasingly common. I think it's analogous to the phenomenon whereby no one thinks he or she speaks with an accent, while everyone else obviously does.

I'm proposing the designation politicopathy. A sufferer may be said to be a politicopath.

I further propose the following (non-exhaustive) diagnostic criteria.

    - Lack of insight into own ideological formation and constitution.

    - Disproportionate but superficial identification with solely rational discourse without exhibition of marked rational ability.

    - Strident tone. Complete or partial absence of "indoors voice".

    - Mild rash.

    - Lack of empathy with sufferers of closely related disorders in the same spectrum (politicopathy with liberal manifestations, politicopathy with conservative manifestations, politicopathy with nationalist manifestations, politicopathy with pro-Gary Rhodes manifestations, etc.)

I invite descriptions of clinical experience of syndromically consistent signs and symptoms that may contribute to the refinement of this proposed classification.

A similar condition is called ManInThePubItis, whereas the suffer displays symptoms such as "Sure, every body knows...." and "90% of people agree with me!"

The only cure is a quick dose of time spent on a ballot paper, where the sufferer will discover how hard it is to get 10% of people to A) agree and B) actually bother their arse and vote.

Good Heavens Shepard! You're not quick with your replies, are you? Where have you been? Out minding your sheep or have you been in the pub practicing that condition you describe? You sound like you've been through an election and that you resent those who have not - please tell all!

I have been very close to a number of candidates for the Dail, EP, Seanad and County Council for about 15 years, some of whom were sucessful in their bids for election to the Dail and council. It taught me the difference between political ************************ery and reality, and that, as some of those on this site who have faced election can probably testify, an awful lot of what is discussed on this site is great theoretical fun but of no use when facing the PPoI.
